How the Performance Anxiety Skills Group Works

The Performance Anxiety Skills Group is not about eliminating nerves or expecting musicians to feel confident all the time. It helps participants develop practical skills they can use even when pressure is present.

The program combines education, guided exercises, group discussion, and between-session application. Participants learn alongside other musicians while developing strategies they can adapt to their own performance situations, goals, and experiences.

During the program, participants will:

  • Understand how stress and performance anxiety affect attention and consistency

  • Identify individual patterns that influence focus, confidence, and follow-through

  • Develop effective preparation and pre-performance routines

  • Practice breathing, focus, and attentional-control strategies

  • Strengthen recovery skills for mistakes and unexpected moments

  • Apply skills to auditions, recitals, rehearsals, and other performance settings

  • Create practical action steps to use between sessions
